A Uniformly Consistent Estimator of Causal Effects under the kk-Triangle-Faithfulness Assumption

چکیده
Spirtes, Glymour and Scheines [Causation, Prediction, and Search (1993) Springer] described a pointwise consistent estimator of the Markov equivalence class of any causal structure that can be represented by a directed acyclic graph for any parametric family with a uniformly consistent test of conditional independence, under the Causal Markov and Causal Faithfulness assumptions. Robins et al. [Biometrika 90 (2003) 491–515], however, proved that there are no uniformly consistent estimators of Markov equivalence classes of causal structures under those assumptions. Subsequently, Kalisch and Bühlmann [J. Mach. Learn. Res. 8 (2007) 613–636] described a uniformly consistent estimator of the Markov equivalence class of a linear Gaussian causal structure under the Causal Markov and Strong Causal Faithfulness assumptions. However, the Strong Faithfulness assumption may be false with high probability in many domains. We describe a uniformly consistent estimator of both the Markov equivalence class of a linear Gaussian causal structure and the identifiable structural coefficients in the Markov equivalence class under the Causal Markov assumption and the considerably weaker k-Triangle-Faithfulness assumption.

A Consistent Estimator for Uniform Parameter Under Interval Censoring
The censored data are widely used in statistical tests and parameters estimation. In some cases e.g. medical accidents which data are not recorded at the time of occurrence, some methods such as interval censoring are used. In this paper, for a random sample uniformly distributed on the interval (0,θ) the interval censoring have been used. A consistent estimator of θ and some asy...
متن کاملStrong Faithfulness and Uniform Consistency in Causal Inference
A fundamental question in causal inference is whether it is possible to reliably infer ma nipulation effects from observational data. There are a variety of senses of asymptotic reliability in the statistical literature, among which the most commonly discussed frequen tist notions are pointwise consistency and uniform consistency (see, e.g. Bickel, Dok sum [200 1]). Uniform consistency is in...
متن کاملAdjacency-Faithfulness and Conservative Causal Inference
Most causal discovery algorithms in the literature exploit an assumption usually referred to as the Causal Faithfulness or Stability Condition. In this paper, we highlight two components of the condition used in constraint-based algorithms, which we call “Adjacency-Faithfulness” and “OrientationFaithfulness.” We point out that assuming Adjacency-Faithfulness is true, it is possible to test the ...
متن کاملSAT-Based Causal Discovery under Weaker Assumptions
Using the flexibility of recently developed methods for causal discovery based on Boolean satisfiability (SAT) solvers, we encode a variety of assumptions that weaken the Faithfulness assumption. The encoding results in a number of SAT-based algorithms whose asymptotic correctness relies on weaker conditions than are standardly assumed. This implementation of a whole set of assumptions in the s...
متن کاملRobust Causal Estimation in the Large-Sample Limit without Strict Faithfulness
Causal effect estimation from observational data is an important and much studied research topic. The instrumental variable (IV) and local causal discovery (LCD) patterns are canonical examples of settings where a closed-form expression exists for the causal effect of one variable on another, given the presence of a third variable. Both rely on faithfulness to infer that the latter only influen...
